Cycling Central Coast Vietnam means from cycling Hue to Saigon in Vietnam. It is one of the most beautiful coastlines in Vietnam because of its historical sights and cultural interest, blessed with ravishing beaches and boasts natural reserves.

Da Nang is chipping in and emerging as one of the nation’s most dynamic and 3rd biggest cities in Vietnam.

Hue is a former imperial capital with its incredible Citadel and royal tombs. It is also a wonder at a unique grace and nearby sublime riverside of Hoi An. Vietnam By Bike takes you inside to explore backroads and through shimmering rice paddies to remote Champa ruins.

Hai Van (Sea Cloud) pass became a TOP GEAR VIETNAM with the peak of its 496m, it has an incredibly mountainous stretch and spectacular views.

Full itinerary

Day 1: Hue Citadel Cycling.

Our team will be greeting you at the hotel on a leisurely morning and spin outside of Hue, riding along the river (or in the van if the city traffic is too busy), then into the countryside through village areas. Along the way, we will pause at a kindergarten to visit school children who will be delighted to practice their English.
Continue on to visit two of the finest examples of Imperial architecture, the Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Royal Tombs, spend some time walking through the gardens, learning about the history of Vietnam’s emperors and enjoying the scenery. Afterwards, continue to bike across the Eastern bank to visit the sublime Thien Mu Pagoda, observing the novice monks living here, and strolling the pleasant grounds. Bid farewell to Thien Mu, further our ride into the massive Citadel, where Vietnam’s emperors ruled.

Afterwards, breaking for lunch at a beautifully renovated traditional wooden house of a Hue royal ancestor, Mr. Vinh, with Hue delicacies such as tasty spring rolls, bún bò Huế, an unusual spicy, brothy soup listed on restaurant signboards throughout the country, a heavenly relative to bún riêu cua, a tomato broth soup topped with crab or shrimp paste (Mr. Vinh’s wife can also prepare the best fries you’ve ever tasted)
In the afternoon, sightseeing on or off bike by preference. Before dinner, there is time to visit the large local market, or one of the few art galleries along the river. In the evening, transport to dinner at the one of finest restaurants.

Day 2: Hue - Hoian Ancient Town

This morning we’ll ride across the Perfume River, entering and weaving through the Imperial Citadel on our way out of town, heading south through rice farms to visit a restored traditional village before continuing towards the coast. After reaching a side route, we’ll enjoy a wonderfully scenic ride along a beautiful coast passing emerald green rice fields fronting blue lagoons. Here are also white dunes, covered with colorful traditional burial tombs (although the larger ones are new, a symbol of Vietnam’s rising economy). Here are numerous small villages and farms, and again we’ll pause to meet with locals and stop into a local school.

After a couple hours of flat, meandering ride, we’ll break at Lang Co Lagoon for a seafood lunch before — uh-oh — conquering the six-mile Hai Van Pass (below). Thankfully, the pass was graded gently and is also now closed to motor traffic. After pausing on the summit for panoramic views north to Hue and south over Danang, we’ll descend then continue onto Hoi An, skirting busy Danang and out to the coast again south to Hoi An, a quaint town that is typically everyone’s favorite stop in Vietnam on this tour.
Suggested Dinner at the busy Miss Vy’s where we’ll watch cooking in the chaotic kitchen. Overnight in Hoi An.

After early breakfast, depart Hoi An by van driving south along Highway 1 to our starting point (about three hours). After picnic lunch and refreshments, mount bikes to ride on backroads meandering through emerald rice fields and small villages en route to Qui Nhon along a route travelers rarely visit.

This long day ends with passing through the former American port base, Qui Nhon, and down the coast to our hotel. If it’s early, time for swimming and massage (schedule upon arrival). Dinner banquet will feature such specialties as lemongrass chicken baked in palm-leaves, although cold beer will be an equal highlight of the meal.

Day 5: Qui Nhon - Nha Trang Beach City.

After leisurely breakfast, enjoying the beach views until departure. Our ride from Qui Nhon to Nha Trang covers some of Vietnam’s most scenic coastline, featuring blue lagoons with stone promontories overlooking the languid waters below. Fishing villages under rows of palms dot the coast here, their bays are filled with brightly colored boats. Not many travelers make it here, so lots of attention can be expected.

Another long day in the saddle, beginning with a ride down the quiet road from the hotel to the Highway 1 turnoff (about one hour’s ride). Here, those that do not mind the traffic of Highway 1 (this section is one of the least busy on Highway 1) will continue on bikes all the way down to Tuy Hoa, where we will rendezvous for lunch. From Tuy Hoa, van shuttle to picturesque Dai Lanh Beach, pausing for a dip in the water and refreshments. In the late afternoon, arrive on the waterfront in picturesque Nha Trang. After arrival, check in cozy and evening free.
